Amersham 3rd XI v North Maidenhead 3rd XI
Match drawn
After a three week break since their first game of the season, Amersham were
unable to get back to winning ways as they fell 34 short of a stiff target on a
damp Jackson Field pitch under a cloudless sky.
Amersham had had the best of the early exchanges, taking four quick wickets at
the top of the North Maidenhead order. Chris Ewers (55) then began to claw back some
of the initiative in positive partnerships with Bascombe (27) and then Christian
Pederson (58). When Ewers was eventually caught by the young Paul Langley at
backward point, Pederson continued the onslaught in partnership with the tail.
David McKay took four wickets in two spells, as did John Seymour who finished off
the innings two overs early.
The Amersham reply started brightly as North Maidenhead strived too hard for
pace on a surface that offered some alarming lift at times. However, they eventually
adjusted their radar, and 43 for 0 after 13 overs became 47 for 1 after 20.
Ben Langley dropped anchor most effectively for his 53 in 40 overs, but despite
the best efforts of James Baxter (21), and David Mackintosh (28), no senior
batsman was able to offer sustained support and the run-chase eventually petered
out.
