Amersham 1st XI turned in an encouraging performance last Saturday away to
Marlow Park but could not snatch the final wicket required to record a
much needed victory. Amersham were sent in by the opposition and posted
239/6 on a docile wicket. Captain Chris Owen held the innings together
with 103 not out supported well by the rest of the order.
In reply Marlow Park made 219/9 against commited, determined bowling
and fielding from Amersham, and were thwarted only by a classy unbeaten
knock of 103 from Jawed. Amersham maintained pressure despite this
onslaught and claimed two run outs, with Sam Davis taking 3 wickets, and
Moore and Hands a brace apiece. |

Amersham 1st XI continued their disappointing start to the season by
capitulating to a strong Marlow side this Saturday at Shardeloes. Sent
into bat on a wicket offering bounce and lateral movement to the bowlers
Amersham struggled from the outset with only young gun Rob Viney (31) able
to combine run scoring with survival. Despite this Amersham where
reasonably placed at 80/3 with 20 overs remaining but then slid to 109
all out, with off spinner Hayne taking 4/22.
Marlow reached their target for the loss of only 2 wickets, guided home by
Gidman (51*) but had to endure a near unplayable spell of quick bowling
from Kiwi Sam Davis who picked up both wickets to fall. The Amersham
batting line up must soon begin to support their strong attack or the side
risks relegation. |

Amersham lost to a strong, top of the table NPL Teddington team on Saturday
in the Moorant Thames Valley League Division 1. NPL Teddington now have the
maximum 75 points from thier 3 games.
After winning the toss NPL immediately grasped the advantage on a very hot
day. Following the loss of two early wickets Churchman and opener Feltham
took the total to 187 after only 30 overs. Both played a full range of
aggressive shots with Feltham eventually falling to Sam Davis for a fine 101
and Churchman to Nick Moore for 56. Feltham especially deserves praise as
the combination of high temperatures and diabetes caused him to take regular
breaks for sustaining drinks. Amersham then fought back bravely to take the
next 6 wickets for only 32 runs. Nick Moore bowled superbly to achieve
figures of 6 for 52 and Sam Davis deserved his 4 wickets at a cost of 48
runs. At this point Amersham seemingly had the game in their grasp as the
disappointed home side had not pressed home their earlier advantage.
Unfortunately, on a very good batting pitch and with 60 overs available, the
momentum swung back to Teddington as Amersham lost early wickets. After 18
overs the score had reached only 48 for 5. Evan Hamilton Pike (30) and
Captain Rich Stephenson (24) then fought back, showing the potential to
challenge the Teddington total before both fell in quick succession. The
remaining wickets followed shortly afterwards with the final score being 120
all out after 37.2 overs.
Amersham will have to bounce back quickly as they now are at the foot of the
table with only 20 points after 3 games. This is slightly deceptive though
as the previous two games were abandoned due to rain. Once their strong
batting line up become more battle hardened they are expected to climb up
the league table with the first opportunity being at Shardloes this coming
Saturday, the 7th of June, versus Harefield. |
