A very young Amersham side put up a spirited display in the Bucks cup quarter final against Burnham on Sunday. The Amersham side included 5 players under 17 with Kilgannon, Haddock and Holt from the very successful under 15's.
Amersham won the toss and elected to at first. Although Amersham were scoring quickly they lost 2 quick wickets. Rob Viney (19) and Olly Haddock (22) batted well but the innings really took momentum with Duncan Ward (53) and Jack Killgannon (50) putting on a good partnership. Ward was unlucky in his dismissal but Killgannon carried on to his first half century for the 1st XI. It was a very mature innings from a 14 year old. The remaining batsmen all chipped in with vital runs to post a respectable 225.
Burnham set about the run chase as if playing a twenty20 match. Ward managed to get a couple of quick wickets and was well supported by Brad Holt who bowled very well after being smashed to all parts of the ground in his 1st over. Both Matt Clark and Olly Haddock got amongst the wicket but Amersham were unable to stem the flow of runs as Burnham reached the target in 32 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. Despite being beaten Amersham can take a lot of pride from this match with all the young players performing well. |
