    Amersham v Warborough

Warborough 225-5 dec (39 ovs; Duncan Pickering 59, James Hobbs 34*, Edward Tilley 31, Rohan Iswariah 31)

Amersham 176-8 (45 ovs; Hugo Matcham 33, Alan Tilley 6−84)

    Match drawn

On a warm afternoon of unbroken sunshine at Shardeloes, Amersham won the toss and invited Warborough to bat. Against a youthful opening attack, Warborough ensured that no wayward delivery went unpunished, and had amassed 52 without loss from the first nine overs.

A period of watchful defence followed as John Seymour and Evan Hamilton-Pike caused some difficulty for the batsmen, with Seymour winning a leg-before wicket shout against Edward Tilley with the batsman well forward in defence.

Immediately following a break for drinks, Warborough moved up a gear. Duncan Pickering (59), James Hobbs, Rohan Iswariah, and Jed Cleeter all kept the scoreboard ticking over at a healthy rate as 105 runs were taken from the last twelve overs of the Warborough innings before the declaration came.

Chasing 226 for victory, Amersham started cautiously against the Henk brothers. After helping to put on 65 for the first wicket, Hugo Matcham was the first to go, edging a fine delivery from Richard Tilley. This was followed by an outstanding piece of fielding at extra-cover by the 14-year-old Alex Henk, who picked up on the run and threw down the wicket at the non-striker's end with only one stump to aim.

Amersham started the last 20 overs still requiring 140 for victory with eight wickets in hand. With the Warborough spinners now bowling in tandem on a wearing pitch, the rate soon began to creep up towards ten runs per over. Finally, in his eleventh over, Alan Tilley broke the third-wicket partnership to have Martin John brilliantly taken by a diving Edward Tilley at mid-wicket, clinging on to the ball with thumb and forefinger, inches above the ground.

Alan Tilley went on to grab five more wickets in his next six overs to finish with figures of 6-84 as Amersham continued to chase the runs. Only when the eighth wicket fell with 13 balls remaining did they finally shut up shop.

    Amersham v Shardeloes XI

Amersham 239-8 dec (Chris Owen 69, Charlie Bennito 55*)

Shardeloes XI 100 (Jamie Toates 4−?)

    Amersham won by 139 runs

On Sunday Amersham defeated a Presidents XI in some style by first scoring 239/8 dec on an uneven wicket and then dismissing the opposition for just over 100. Chris Owen (69) and Charlie Bennito (55*) helped to set the good score and then young firebrand Jamie Toates claimed 4 wickets in a pacy opening spell. The match was preceeded by a ceremony to mark the opening of a new scorebox in memory of the late Brian Watt.

    Amersham v Cryptics

Cryptics 225-6 dec (54 ovs; John Seymour 3−?)

Amersham 223-9 (Hugo Matcham 87, Phil Walsh 74)

    Match drawn

Amersham could disapointingly only draw against the Cryptics this Sunday letting slip a seemingly impregnable position. Batting first Cryptics made 225/6 from 54 overs in perfect batting conditions. Whilst Jon Seymore used his experience to claim 3 wickets the Amersham out cricket was poor, giving away too many extras and grassing numerous chances.

Despite this, a dashing openning stand of 160 between Phil Walsh (74) and Hugo Matchham (87) seemed to have the game won for Amersham with the requirement being only 65 from the final twenty overs. However, a reshuffled batting order backfired spectacularly as Cryptics applied pressure and took wickets regularly - Hutchinson bowling his leg spin to good effect at the death. Amersham closed 3 runs short at 223/9 with all results possible when the final ball was bowled

    Amersham v Clapham Inn Thirds

Clapham Inn Thirds 197-6 (Nick Moore 6−60)

Amersham 198-2 (Hugo Matcham 87*, Chris Owen 74*)

    Amersham won by 8 wickets

Some signs of a return to batting form where shown by Amersham on sunday as their young side overcame roaming side Clapemin Thirds. Clapemin were restricted to 197/6 on a pitch offering some assitance to the bowlers with Nick Moore bagging 6/60. Amersham then reached their target for the loss of only 2 wickets - prodigal son Hugo Matcham scoring a composed 87 not out, supported by skipper Chris Owen with 74 not out.

    Old Mid-Whitgiftian v Amersham

ECB National Club Cricket Championship − Group 14 (South East III) (2nd Round)

Amersham 166-8 (45 ovs; Rob Viney 39, Duncan Ward 35*, Paul Gardner 3−27)

Old Mid-Whitgiftian 167-5 (36.1 ovs; Nick Bradwell 59, Mike Brugnoli 53*)

Old Mid-Whitgiftian won by 5 wickets

Amersham travelled to Old Midwhitgifians in the second round of the National Club Knockout Cup on Sunday and lost by 5 wickets. Amersham lost the toss and were asked to bat first. They soon found themselves in trouble at 45 -4 with Gardner and Westlake bowling well. Rob Viney and John Andrews batted sensibly to get Amersham past 100 with a stand of 63. Andrews fell in the 32nd over leaving Rob Viney to anchor the innings. With some lusty blows from Duncan Ward at the end Amersham managed to reach 166 - 8.

OMW CC opening pair made it look an easy total to reach with patient batting and good running between the wickets. With Trend having to retire hurt and Nick Moore being introduced to the attack Amersham were back in the game but the rain breaks didn't help and made bowling difficult. Despite a spirited display Amersham still lost but positives to take into their first league game are young Rob Viney's batting and Nick Moore's bowling display.
