| | Amersham Sunday XI recorded a comfortable win this week in a game where a mixture of young and experienced players showed their skills. Skipper Atkinson was disappointed to lose the toss, and Hetairoi elected to bat first. Andy Viney (1-18) and Matt Crawley (1-5) both produced one unplayable delivery in their spells to reduce Hetairoi to 2-2 before Ball and Oliver built a partnership of 74. Oliver hit the ball cleanly, but eventually holed out off the promising offspin of Ned Kilgannon. David Atkinson (3-5) was miserly with his legspin, preventing the middle order accelerating, and he and Luke Jackson (3-25) worked their way through the batting. For the last 15 minutes of the innings Michael Viney fielded 12th man for Amersham, joining father David and older brothers Rob and Andy on the field, a Viney family first. After a slightly rocky start that saw Amersham quivering at 30-3 Stuart Rogers and Ned Kilgannon batted extremely sensibly to rebuild the innings. When Rogers was dismissed Matt Crawley immediately upped the pace, and his vigorous innings of 68 brought Amersham to the brink of a victory that was soon sealed. 15 year old Kilgannon batted maturely and sensibly for his unbeaten 23 and is clearly a player for the future. |
