| | Amersham's league season began in autumnal conditions at Shardeloes. After heavy overnight rain the game began on time, but it was not a pleasant experience. Luke Jackson won the toss and chose to bowl first, and his opening attack of Matt Crawley and James Harmer vindicated this decision. Crawley removed one Cove opener, caught by Andy Vieny at cover, before Harmer removed the other with an identical dismissal. Harmer then induced a false shot from the dangerous Neil Randall to leave Cove struggling at 30-3. A significnat fourth wicket partnership followed as the Cove batsmen mixed watchful defence with occasional lusty blows. All the bowlers caused some problems. Tom Dixon found some exaggerated lift, hitting one batsman on the helmet, and the spin of Matt Ash and David Atkinson also posed difficulties. Atkinson bowled Nick Randall round his legs to break the partnership, while Ash claimed an LBW victim int he next over. Eventually, however, the weather had the final say as persistent rain began to flood the square and render conditions unplayable. Cove's innings was left unfinished on 109-5. |
