On a glorious late April day Amersham 2nds opened the season with a comfortable victory over local rivals Chesham. With Shardeloes looking a picture, Messrs Garvey and Robinson both picked up a wicket apiece in good opening spells, and it was then left to the spin kings of M Rajabali and M Ash to restrict Chesham to 158-9 off their 45 overs. A particular highlight was a breathtaking effort behind the stumps by Henry Capper to hang on to a skier - the gasps of amazement from bemused onlookers were audible!!! In reply, Rich Stephenson showed fluent early season form with a well compiled 79, and the aforementioned Mr Capper recovered from a merciless tea-time onslaught from team mates to support him with a well struck 39, and their partnership of 84 took Amersham to within sight of victory. It was then left to young Stuart Rogers to comprehensively outscore his more famous father and his 2 not out secured the victory with 9 overs to spare. All in all a most pleasant opener to the season, and if all Saturday evenings are as sunny it will truly be a wonderful season, whatever the outcome on the field of play! |
