The 2006 league season closed in the best possible way with Amersham 2nds gaining maximum points against Chenies & Latimer to remain in second place and thus securing promotion to Div 3 next year. After winning the all important toss skipper Weston had no hesitation in batting first and openers Ash and Jupp started well on a glorious late summers day to get Amersham off to another solid start. After both openers were dismissed soon after one another, and Bulman rather surprisingly clipped one to square leg after looking in imperious form, it was left to Weston and Hamilton-Pike to carry on where they left off last week, and end of their 127 run partnership when Weston was bowled signalled the declaration of the Amersham innings at 226-4 off 41 overs. In reply, the visiting batsmen were soon in trouble against openers Ward and Bulman, the latter of whom returned excellent figures of 5-43 in a controlled spell of seam bowling. A super run out from the ever-impressive fielding of Glen Saffery, and 2 wickets apiece for Aylott and Ash secured victory with 14 overs remaining to allow the celebrations to begin. |
