A fine all-round team performance earned Amersham a deserved win at home to Marlow on Saturday. After electing to bat first, Marlow were restricted by an excellent opening spell of swing bowling from Duncan Ward that earned him the wickets of the visitor's top three. These early breakthroughs exposed the middle order to the wiles of the Amersham spinners who pressured Marlow into folding for 153. David Atkinson was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 4-21. However, with the slow wicket offering assistance to the bowlers, the target was not a formality. The canny off-spin of Haq immediately had Amersham on the back foot as he claimed the wickets of both Viney brothers in the tenth over. The innings was rebuilt by Chris Owen in the company of first Chris Sowden and then Luke Jackson with the batsmen defending stoutly and waiting for the loose delivery. Despite a couple of quick wickets failing to Madurasinghe, the casually classy Jackson saw Amersham home and sealed victory in style by hoisting two massive straight sixes. |
