It was a great day at Shardeloes yesterday as Amersham entertained Peter Butler’s Class of 96 in a most entertaining match as part of Amersham’s 150th celebrations. The Class of 96 made 230 for 5 in their 40 overs with classy half centuries from Jonny Atkins and Peter Butler followed by little cameos from Jeremy Fisher, Jonny Andrews and Ian Rogers. Despite a slow start and the loss of two early wickets against the hostile pace bowling of Sam Martin and Duncan Ward, Rob Viney (110no) and Chris Sowden (80no) gradually took the initiative and saw the current Amersham team to a famous victory over their predecessors with 2 overs to spare. A particular highlight was Chris Sowden’s three successive sixes off Amersham veteran Mustafa Rajabali. |
