| | Amersham eventually had to settle for a slightly disappointing draw at Reading after a hard fought game on Saturday. Batting first, Amersham made a solid start and the highlight of the innings was an excellent 3rd wicket partnership of 114 between Bulman (84) and Capper(48), both of whom were disappointed not to have made higher individual scores on a good batting track. The final total of 243, though slightly less than seemed likely at one stage, nonetheless ensured maximum batting points. In reply, the Reading batsmen were assisted by some initially wayward Amersham bowling to get off to a good start, and it took another superb catch by Saffery and some tight bowling by the elder statesmen in the side for Amersham to regain control towards the latter stages of the Reading innings. Crucially, Davidson (77) and Walder ( 46 no) were both dropped to ultimately deprive Amersham victory, and it is evident that the team must start to perform more consistently if promotion is to remain a realistic target for the season. |
