Amersham battled hard against determined opponents and poor weather before finally succumbing to a disappointing 17 run loss in their first home league game of the season. After electing to bowl first on a wet wicket Amersham were indebted to a marathon spell of seam bowling from the indefatigable Chris Sowden that produced six wickets. However, the Harefield middle order batted with skill and patience to set Amersham a testing target of 169 for victory. Openers Andrew Viney and Rich Stephenson gave Amersham a magnificent start, racing to a 80 run partnership inside 20 overs. Unfortunately, their dismissals in quick succession allowed Harefield to pressure the middle order with dramatic results. Zimbabwe opening bowler Edward Rainsford exploited the conditions to the full in a testing spell to grab victory for Harefield. |
