In the final warm-up match prior to the start of the league season, Amersham and Kidmore End dodged the rain clouds to enjoy a thrilling limited overs match. On winning the toss and electing to bat, Kidmore were initially restricted by Amersham's debutant New Zealander Chris Sowden, who bowled a fine opening spell of 8-4-10-1. T. Sheldon and D. New broke the shackles to set Amersham a testing target despite two wickets apiece for Atkinson and Dixon. In reply, Amersham lost wickets regularly until Luke Jackson and Sowden calmly put the pressure back on Kidmore with a controlled partnership. However, once Sowden fell for 34 - deceived by the flight of Jones - Amersham could only scramble to within two runs of the winning target despite the serene Jackson's crafted 61 not out. |
