Amersham 1st XI began the season with a promising performance against Thames Valley Division 1 opponents Chesham. After winning the toss and chosing to bat Amersham worked hard to counter consistent Chesham bowling and a slow outfield to reach 193/8 from 52 overs. Andy Viney and new signing Todd Kruger saw off the new ball skillfully before Chris Owen and Duncan Ward upped the tempo at the close of the innings. In response, Chesham were restricted by tight opening spells from Ward and Evan Hamilton-Pike. This pressure was sustained by an excellent spell from Mustapha Rajabali, ably supported by David Atkinson, Owen and some tenacious fielding resulting in a collapse of the Chesham middle-order. Unfortunately, the last Chesham pair hung on in fading light to thwart Amersham's designs on a win. |
